Faith & Encouragement

God said, “Not Yet.” And I’m Still Thanking Him.

43 years ago today… In 1982, my life was nearly taken.

On Christmas Eve, I was sitting on my grandmother’s lap, riding around looking at Christmas lights – pure innocence, pure joy. Then a vehicle hit us.

I was thrown into the windshield.
That sentence still feels heavy to write. Because statistically? I shouldn’t be here. Babies don’t bounce. Windshields don’t forgive. Accidents like that don’t usually end with testimonies.

But God said, “Not yet.”
Not because I was special.
Not because I deserved it.
But because He had already written more chapters.

“The Lord preserved me.” — Psalm 121:7

Looking back, I see it clearly now:
God’s hand was on my life long before I knew His name. Long before I could thank Him. Long before I could even speak.

That’s why gratitude isn’t just
something I practice when life is good.
It’s something I live — because my very breath is borrowed grace.

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Not for everything – but in everything.

Because sometimes the miracle isn’t what God did yesterday…
It’s that you’re still here today.

Every scar, every survival, every “l don’t know how I made it through that” moment is proof that God has been faithful longer than we’ve been aware.

“I will give thanks to You, Lord, with all my heart.” — Psalm 9:1

So today, I thank God — not just for saving my life back then, but for walking with me ever since. For the seen blessings. The unseen protection. And the moments I didn’t even realize I was being spared.

If you’re here reading this – breathing, healing, surviving — maybe your story is similar.

Maybe God said “Not yet” over you too.

And that alone is reason enough to thank Him.
