Today’s Verse is about strength that shows up when life feels unstable — not dramatic strength, but steady footing.
Habakkuk 3:19 (NIV)
“The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights.”
Habakkuk is not a calm book.
Habakkuk is a short book in the Bible where a man is honestly wrestling with God. He sees injustice. He sees confusion. He doesn’t understand what God is doing.
By the time we reach this verse, nothing around him has magically changed.
But something inside him has.
“The Sovereign Lord is my strength.”
Sovereign simply means God is in control — even when things don’t look controlled.
Then comes this picture:
“He makes my feet like the feet of a deer…”
Deer are steady on mountain terrain. They can stand and move in places that would make others slip.
That’s the image.
God may not flatten the mountain.
But He gives stability on it.
“He enables me to tread on the heights.”
The heights represent difficult places — elevated, exposed, not easy ground.
This verse is not promising an easy life.
It’s promising balance in hard places.
Strength here isn’t loud.
It’s sure.
And sometimes that’s exactly what’s needed.
If life feels uneven right now, consider this:
Maybe the goal isn’t to remove the mountain.
Maybe it’s to strengthen your footing.
“God gives me steady footing on difficult ground.”
Lord, when the ground feels uncertain, be my strength. Give me steady footing and help me trust You in places that feel high and exposed. Amen.
