📖 Stay Rooted
Daily Verse: Colossians 2:6–7
“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” — Colossians 2:6–7 (NIV)
Today’s verse is about staying grounded when everything around you feels loud.
Paul wrote this to believers who were being pulled in multiple spiritual directions. There were new teachings circulating, new philosophies that sounded impressive, and ideas that seemed wise but were drifting away from the truth of Christ. Instead of encouraging them to chase the newest idea, Paul brought them back to something simple: the way you started is the way you continue.
You received Christ by faith. Not by performance. Not by having every answer. Not by getting your life perfectly organized first. You came to Him by trusting Him. And Paul says that same trust is how you keep walking forward.
He uses the word “rooted,” and I love that picture. Roots grow slowly. They grow underground where no one sees them. There’s no applause for root growth. But when storms come, roots are what keep the tree standing. In our world, we tend to celebrate visible growth — the breakthroughs, the answered prayers, the exciting moments. But deep faith is often quiet. It is built in consistency, in choosing obedience on ordinary days, and in trusting God when nothing dramatic is happening.
It’s easy to become spiritually restless today. We scroll, compare, listen to countless voices, and suddenly we wonder if we’re missing something. Maybe we need a new strategy. Maybe we need a louder experience. Maybe we need something more impressive. But Colossians reminds us that Jesus is not a starting point we move beyond. He is the foundation we stay planted in.
When you are rooted in Him, you become steady. Not because life stops being hard, but because your stability no longer depends on circumstances. You are built up over time. Strengthened gradually. And something beautiful begins to grow — gratitude. Not shallow positivity, but a deep thankfulness that comes from knowing who holds you.
If you feel like you are in a quiet season right now, that doesn’t mean you are stagnant. You might actually be growing roots. And roots matter more than hype ever will.
If you want to go deeper into what steady, lived-out faith looks like — not just emotional highs but daily obedience — I talk more about that journey in Living Faith Out Loud. Because faith was never meant to stay shallow. It was meant to grow strong.
Stay planted. Storms do not uproot what is deeply rooted.
Prayer
Lord, help me stay grounded in You when everything around me feels distracting or loud. Strengthen my faith in quiet ways. Teach me to value steady growth over flashy moments, and keep my heart rooted in Christ above all else. Amen.
