📖 When You Feel Spiritually Dry
Daily Verse: John 15:5
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” — John 15:5 (NIV)
Have you ever had a season where you’re doing all the “right” things, but you still feel spiritually dry? You’re showing up. You’re praying. You’re trying. But the passion isn’t there. The momentum feels slow. And if you’re honest, you start wondering if something is wrong with you.
Jesus spoke these words to His disciples the night before His crucifixion. It wasn’t a motivational speech. It was preparation. He knew they were about to feel confused, scattered, and unsure. And instead of giving them a complicated strategy, He gave them a picture: a vine and branches. Simple. Organic. Steady.
Branches don’t produce fruit by trying harder. They produce fruit by staying connected.
That’s it.
The pressure we quietly put on ourselves is heavy. We want to grow faster. Do better. Be more disciplined. Feel more inspired. But Jesus doesn’t say, “Perform for Me.” He says, “Remain in Me.” There’s a difference. Performance drains. Remaining sustains.
In today’s world, even our faith can start to feel like a productivity plan. Read more. Serve more. Post more. Fix more. And none of those things are bad. But if they replace connection, they become exhausting. A branch cut off from the vine might still look alive for a little while, but eventually it withers. Not because it was bad — but because it was disconnected.
If you feel spiritually dry right now, it may not mean you’re failing. It may simply mean you’re tired of striving. Remaining looks quieter than striving. It looks like steady prayer. Honest conversation with God. Opening your Bible even when you don’t feel fireworks. Trusting that roots grow before fruit shows.
Fruit takes time. Connection comes first.
If you’ve been in a season where faith feels more like maintenance than momentum, I write about building steady, lived-out faith in Living Faith Out Loud. Because faith isn’t sustained by hype. It’s sustained by abiding.
You don’t have to force fruit.
Stay connected.
Growth follows.
Prayer
Lord, when I feel dry or tired in my faith, draw me back to simple connection with You. Help me remain instead of strive, trust instead of force. Grow what needs to grow in Your time. Amen.
